Born March 1906 as the result of the formation of the Wonder Mining District, Wonder outlived nearby Fairview by two years. Like many boomtowns, the saloons and supply shops were in full gear by the summer of '06 and a school was started in '07. Despite its brief life, Wonder Mining Company dug $6,000,000 in precious metals and copper from the earth. Because the sun was moving across its arc in the sky more quickly than I had expected, I passed on the opportunity to visit Wonder. From US50 to as far as the eye can see, SR121 was paved and easily passable.
