The WPA Guide to 1930's Nevada
This book was compiled as part of the federal government's Work Project Administration (WPA) employing writers, historians, cartographers and photographers during the depression. Reprints are available through Amazon.com and other companies.

Desert Country by Edwin Corle
Published in 1941, the author met and chronicled the stories of locals who were old-timers, preserving stories which otherwise would have been lost to time.

Roughing It by Mark Twain
Details of Mark Twain's travels through Nevada. It's sprinkled with "tall tales" such as his meeting with an Avenging Angel or his description of a coyote, perhaps the inspiration for a certain Warner Bros. character many years later. Although written in Twain's tongue-in-cheek style, it provides sound information on what was a young Nevada.

Nevada Map Atlas - Published by the Nevada Department of Transportation.
Each page contains approximately 918 square miles of Nevada detailing roads, creeks, washes, springs and towns of both today and yesteryear. Unlike DeLorme's Atlas (see below), this state-produced atlas concerns itself only with the state's topography and related cartographic and survey information. Sold by the Nevada DOT. For information or purchase, call (775) 888-7MAP (7627).
